Johanna Ernst

Austria
Born: 1992
Team: Climbing
Sports: running, skiing, cycling

Hanna is one of a new generation of climbers. News of her achievements is already echoing from the walls of innumerable climbing parks and halls. Bear in mind the easy-going Tyrolean only turned 18 in November 2010. She was first introduced to the vertical at the tender age of eight. Since then she has demonstrated how thorough training, a healthy amount of ambition, boundless enthusiasm and a fair amount of talent can carry an athlete to ever greater success. Johanna’s achievements include four Austrian championship titles, two first places at the European Youth Championships and three World Youth Championship victories. She was the Tyrolean sportsperson of the year 2009, rising star of 2009, youngest ever European Cup champion, lead climbing World Cup 2009 winner, and was second in the 2010 European Championships held in Austria. But it's not only in competition that Johanna shows how to use a hammer and pin - it's also on the bare rock face. So far she has conquered routes such as "Minas Tirith" (8b+) and Odysseus (8b+).
