Born: 1970
Team: Alpinism
Sports: Surfing, Climbing, Traveling
Motto: "having fun everyday, life is too short to waste only one day!

Michi is one of Germany's most successful all-round mountaineers. He is also the youngest person to stand on the summit of K2 (8611m). He is a mountain guide, a training supervisor with the national training team for mountain guides and ski guides, and on the national training team of the German Alpine Club. When Michi Wärthl tackles something, he does it properly. Since his successful 1994 K2 expedition, he has belonged to the elite of professional mountain climbers. He has tackled many first difficult ascents in his remarkable career, including the "Vogelfrei" route on the south face of the Schüsselkar (13 SL, 10/10+). He succeeded in making the fourth ascent of Gurla Mandata (7694 m) in 2002, as well as reaching the summit of Ama Dablam (6856 m). A year later he was the first mountain guide to lead a climber through the "Supercanaleta" route on Cerro Fitz Roy (3405 m) in Patagonia. And again in 2003 he carried out the first repeat of the "La vida es silbar" route (28 SL, 9/9+) along the north face of the Eiger. He lives with his wife and two sons in the south of Munich. But most of his time is spent on steep rock faces around the world, always on the lookout for new challenges. May he find many more.
