If you aim to be a champion you have to start young. But even those who are late starters can also leave their mark. Simon is one of the latter. He didn't begin climbing until he was 18. But once he got a taste for the mountains, he always came back for more. In just 17 hours he blitzed his way through all the north face routes of the Drei Zinnen (Tre Cime), and climbed the Matterhorn, Piz Badile and the north face of the Eiger within only six days. Together with fellow team member Roger Schäli, he reached the summit of Cerro Fitz Roy in Patagonia in November 2009. Only a year later, in October 2010, the young mountain guide climbed 'red point' through a route of his own creation: "Fairplay“ (7 SL, 230m, 10-) which is in the Vallon-Sella group (Dolomites) above Corvara – and did so without leaving behind a single bolt in the rocks.
